In Philippine show business, Dennis Trillo is a marvelman, Jennylyn Mercado a wonder woman, and they have fantastic fans!
Little is written about fans and I write about them as I find them very interesting. I had the opportunity to get to know one of the fans of Dennis and Jennylyn or Denjen (as they are fondly named as a couple) and most of them only through their fan comments on the various CoLove videos in Jenylyn Mercado You Tube channel and on their past videos on and off camera. Let me share the things that surprised me and made me appreciate DenJen fans.
Finding Time, Effort and Money to Support
Fans all over the country and overseas have followed Jennylyn and Dennis for more than 16 years now, proof how iconic these two artists have become in local and, to a significant degree, foreign entertainment.
Fans see all the movies of Dennis and Jennylyn either individually or as screen partners and patronize their television shows, concerts, music records, award events, guesting, mall shows, interviews, and give full support in contests that include Dennis and Jen. Current addition to this is fan patronage of the couple’s business ventures together, namely a cat café Litterbucks that brings along Jen’s famous Chunky Dough cookies and their salon Fit & Form.
Both multi-talented and multi-awarded in the fields of acting and music, fans believe they have more than enough reasons to admire and love this couple. These fans are a mix of mothers and fathers, single men and ladies, members of the LGBT community - adoring audiences who are mostly professionals in their respective careers but who healthily give time for rest and recreation by being DenJen fans. Through the years, some of them have become personal friends of Dennis and Jennylyn.
Getting Together as a Fan Group
Not content with just being a singular spectator, DenJen fans organized themselves into fan clubs and sponsored events where they actually invite Dennis and Jennylyn in significant occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, movie premiere showing, movie blockscreening, and other celebrations relevant to their idols’ careers.
DenJen fan club members usually bond when they meet in DenJen media activities and express support for each other in their respective social media posts. Among the active fan accounts include jennylyactivity, thedennis 420, solidjennylynians, silentdeej, DenJen Greenhearts Clan, DenJenfansclub, NC_110, Denjenfanatics_hk, welovedenjen, Teamjennylyn, Jennylynmercado_buddies, team_dennistrillo, teamdennistrillo-usa, #dennistrillo, JennyleynFaney, @jennylynNation, Maya, Brynna-Denjen forever, leigh, and others.
Loyal Like a family
How DenJen fans are loyal and protective of Dennis and Jennylyn strikes me the most. Within the length of time they have been supportive of Dennis and Jennylyn, they never wavered believing that Dennis and Jennylyn are genuine as individuals in spite of their being in a business known as the world of make-believe.
Most of us are witnesses to the moment Dennis announced he has become a father at the time his career was at a soar and the time when Jennylyn had the same experience of having a child at the start of her blooming career. If one were to look through the interviews of Dennis and Jennylyn during those trying times, fans appreciated and admired how honest and brave these two were in facing the new realities in their public and private lives.
The unconditional support of family, friends including fans on both sides of Dennis and Jennylyn is seen as a key factor in making them survive and go past their major life challenges while keeping their careers going and successful. Even with their second-chance romance, fans are greatly inspired by how Dennis and Jen have made things right for them and their families. Dennis is now hailed as one of the best actors in his generation and Jennylyn the Ultimate Star and Romcom Queen, making both among the most bankable and loved entertainment personalities described as extraordinary and exemplary.
As the old adage says, “Integrity is telling myself the truth. And honesty is telling the truth to other people.”
“Amor con amor se paga”
Fans continue to admire Dennis and Jennylyn simply because these two artists never fail to recognize fan efforts and patronage by expressing gratitude to them publicly whenever possible. They show genuine affection to their fans by treating them on several occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays and sponsored block screening of their movies.
During this pandemic, fans are delighted with DenJen showing more of their humanitarian qualities by donating medical supplies and PPEs to public hospitals in various cities and provinces, and Jennylyn speaking on social issues that started with the media closure of ABS-CBN affecting their co-workers in the television industry. Against internet bashers and bullies, DenJen fans continue to defend the two and re-establish the image of DenJen as they know them to be. Indeed, Denjen fan feats are fantastic.
