Duterte Presidency: Better Change or Else!

Give the taxi rider exact change! Stop any-time-of-the-day street drinking, nonstop karaoke singing till wee hours of dawn! Let Juan de la Cruz have his good sleep for he works his bones out tomorrow to earn a decent living. Give the Filipino his due -  or else!


The law enforcers are expected to be on their toes against those who will do wrong or they lose their jobs. Those tainted with drug-related activities are asked to get out judiciously or be charged with treason.

it, and there is excitement and introspection in the air. As the man on the street anticipates, he feels protected and starts thinking of how to reciprocate – how to be part of the new normal: discipline.

As the presumptive President names his cabinet, mostly people he knows and trusts, the new leader is mindful of inclusion and representation specifically the Bangsamoro in Muslim Mindanao and the Communist Party of the Philippines. This brings to clarity that we are all Filipinos and rightful citizens of this ever-abused and ever-beloved nation. But make no mistake – there will be lawful reckoning.

A lot still has to happen before things start rolling for real – executive orders, legislation and judicial proceedings. But it is brilliant to set the tone and make everyone feel that things are possible if we all do our part.

The first President to ever come from Mindanao and the most senior in age, the presumptive 16th President looks like he has the qualities that will make the Filipino work – literally and figuratively.
