Purisima: Top Cop Woes

The foremost guardian of peace and order is bombarded with allegations and his house is being put in disarray.

Philippine National Police Chief Director-General Alan Purisima is facing charges of graft and plunder.

Amidst the investigation, present situations in the nation’s security warn that criminals are on the go and crimes are increasing to a hundred percent from the total number in 2013 to the projected number in 2014 if trends were to continue.

Worst, recent crimes both high and low profile involved the police.

The repercussions of these events to Filipinos are enormous. Mostly felt in Metro-Manila and other major cities, there is that every day subliminal fear from the moment one steps out of his/her home to the time he/she goes back to it. The notorious riding-in-tandem criminals, for example, now target indiscriminatingly – young, old, men, women, children. They hurt physically, ransack the victim’s money and other possessions, and kill unsparingly during the night or in broad daylight.

Also, there is a sense of insecurity even during hours when one is inside his/her residence.

The peacekeepers in government service face a tremendous challenge of running after the violators and consequently winning public trust where it should be.

It is also required that citizens should learn the skill of self-policing, in both the individual and community levels.

Meanwhile, the General refutes all allegations against him and is assured in his position by PNoy.
